Te Iwikau signed Te Tiriti at Queen Charlotte Sound on 5 May 1840. He was married to Miriama Kōnehu of Ngāti Tama, a niece of Te Pūoho. He was baptised in 1843 and lived at Wakapuaka, Nelson.
